EMILY TALBOTT
My name is Emily Kosher-Talbott. I am 34 years old. I graduated
from Capital university with a Bachelor of Arts in 2001. I currently
live in a 107-year-old cozy farmhouse surrounded by perennial
and herb gardens in Newark, Ohio.
I have been married for 14 years, and I stay-at-home with my 6
year old son Cian, and Jemma Wren who is 18 months old.
In addition to my artwork, I am also an avid gardener, traditional
quilter and a classically trained pianist.
I am passionate about paper! After eight years I am still
continuously amazed at the versatility and depth that can be
achieved with paper.
I developed a technique I named "Eco-Kollage" from the Greek
words for earth and combined pieces. The hand-made paper I
use is eco-friendly from sustainable resources, and is on eof the
main economic staples in the small villages of Thailand and
Nepal. Countless pieces of both translucent and opaque papers
are torn and layered with a clear medium on canvas to achieve a
vibrant, "painterly" appearance.
"Eco-Kollage" is not only original, but gives depth, texture, and
intensity to my creations - all the things I found lacking in my
earlier watercolor pieces.
My two young children, and my gardens continually inspire me to
create artwork that captures the beauty of humanity,
motherhood, and the natural world.
I fell that my artwork is a joint venue with craftspeople half a
world away: without their amazing handmade papers, my are
would not be possible.
I will always believe that there is room in this modern world for
works portraying gentle, quiet beauty.
